Next case related to the theft of temple jewels in the sixteenth century about the epigraphy known as 'Vijayanagar Kalvettu'. The other case was about the Thamarai pakkam epigraphy dated in the 10th century about a murder case that also involved jury members. It was a case famous for its humanity based law. The topic was about What is trial ? Trial procedure of a criminal case & certain common provisions stated in Crpc. The speaker started the session by putting forth the main 5 stages of a criminal case. The stages are namely Investigation, Enquiry, Committal proceedings, Trial, Judgment & appeal. The speaker gave a short introduction on the investigation, how it was commenced in the first place by the IO ( investigation officer). The speaker enlightened us with how and when an investigation is made. The stages behind a trial are namely Framing charges, prosecution side witness production, Defence side witness production, Chief and cross examination of prosecution and defence side, Oral arguments and Judgment. Then the speaker dealt with the accused right during trial. The difference between discharge of accused and acquittal of accused was stated clearly. The importance of prima facie in the case was made clear. Various provisions of Crpc were dealt by the speaker in regardance to the trial. Deferring of cross examination, double jeo Larry, local inspection, adjournment in criminal trial, recalling witness, examination of accused, withdrawal of case etc, all such important concepts were revisited by the speaker.

Arbitration agreement entered into by exchange of emails has been accepted as a valid form of agreement in India by the Hon’ble Supreme Court .Then he moved on the session on Arbitral Proceedings. He laid out the emphasis on Arbitral award,Finally, once the arbitral award has been formulated it can be exchanged between the parties via email and signed by the arbitrators. This would complete the arbitration proceedings. The arbitral award can be enforced according to the law and there should not be any difficulty arising out of the award and it’s pros and cons were explained in a beneficial manner for the students.

At the end of the session the resource person concluded that ,Digital inclusion is the need of the hour and socio-cultural change can only help India to cut down its ever increasing backlog of cases. People who are skeptical about the online environment must be trained to gain trust in online arbitration.
