1st Virtual National Moot Court Competition by Legalzems

Saveetha school of law students Shantilal.S,Akshita.B.N and S.Sandhesh Saravanan emerged as the winner in the competition,”1st Virtual National Moot Court Competition “conducted by an up and coming legal website named Legalzems

It's a wholly student-run organization.

The competition comprised of 30 teams from all over the nation. The problem was centred on the sensational Citizenship Amendment Act developments And the Assam Accord.

It was a strenuous journey over a period of 3 days, hardly fought competition.

All the knockout rounds comprised of Highly esteemed judges who were active Practitioners and judges in the SC.

After a lot of riveting ups and downs in our journey to the final, our team held it's nerve in the final as the Judge darted difficult questions at us. Eventually we emerged triumphant and our hardwork paid off rightfully so.

Victim Compensation for crimes against women in India

The webinar was conducted by Ms. Swarnalatha who is practising as an advocate in Madras High court. She started her discussion with detailed analog of what victim compensation is and how it is scattered and implemented in India. She highlighted about the various schemes that have been implemented in many states. Also about the need for uniformed scheme across India. Also how there can be misuse of the law and people can take advantage of it where the innocents can be exploited. She gave insight-upon United Nations General Assembly Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victim and Abuse of Power adopted in November 1985, which through Article 1&2. The legislative framework in Indian regarding compensation to victim of crime can be trace through two major legislations i.e. Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and Probations of Offenders Act and Constitution of India, explained how the payment of compensation of victim had evolved. The Hon'ble Courts have taken a view ( with regard to monetary aspect) when question of the award of compensation come under Cr.P.C. as compare to when it comes under Constitution.

The resource person was “Mr. Adeesh Anto”, who is a practicing Advocate at Madras High Court. In the span of 20 years of his practice, he has expertise himself in drafting and litigation management, negotiating skills, and also communication skills. He has contributed his efforts in various reputed law firms like S.Ramasubramaniam & Associates, Kochhar & Co. and currently he is serving at SAP legal.

Adv. Adeesh Anto initially gave an historical insight about arbitration and how it is governed in the present era. Following this, he explained the purpose and need of arbitration in India. He then acknowledged the participants about the process and procedure of arbitration proceeding in detail and highlighted various segments of it, such as what matters can be arbitrated upon, the need of arbitration clause, who can be the parties to the arbitral proceedings, appointment of arbitrators, number of arbitrators, and the time span to conclude an arbitral proceedings. He also explained how the arbitration moves from pleadings, to framing of issues, to producing evidence, to arguments, to passing of an arbitral award and finally enforcement of an arbitral award. The webinar on a whole was very informative and helpful for the participants to understand the subject of arbitration in India.

In today’s session the speaker taught about climate change and referred to the seasonal changes over a long period of time due to many systems connected with nature. Factors of climate change are divided into two types: natural & artificial factors which have an impact on climate change. Both the factors has an impact over the change of the climate and the link with the present situation of the Covid-19 stating we can see the change of the climate due to the less emissions of the gas we can have a greater experience right now how the Mother Earth is healing the environment by itself.
