On 31st July, 2019, Saveetha School of Law organised a panel discussion on the Union Budget 2019 that was rolled out by the First Full Time Women Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman on July 5, 2019. Mrs. Revathi Raghumathan, Mr. Raam Vairavan and Mr. Divakar Vijayasarathy formed the expert panelists while Dr. Deepak Swaminathan was the moderator. Students of SSL were also invited to be a part of the panel discussion. Sadhana, Leelesh Sundaram, Sandesh Saravanan and Shanthilal formed student panelists. A clear glance of the budget was provided by Mr. Raam Vairavan who touched upon budget deficit, interests on payment and briefed the audience regarding the importance of a budget. The recent National Educational Policy was also examined by Mrs. Revathi who highlighted the fact that India is moving towards a more research oriented approach rather than the traditional classroom system to obtain knowledge. The clear gap between knowledge and skill was elucidated by Mr. Divakar. Sandesh and Leelesh were given a chance to express their perspectives of the Youth of India in relation to the budget. The fact that India is the youngest country and shall have the young minds raking over in future could not have been more aptly put forth by them. No discussion is complete without giving due credit to the women of our country. Nari Tu Narayani, the popular phrase was aptly justified by Sadhana and Mrs. Revathi. India is now moving towards digitalization. This was addressed by Shanthilal who touched upon Adhar card and bank transfer. He also focused on how the budget has facilitated this digital transformation. Dr. Deepak moderated the discussion with a touch of humor which kept it light and sparked the interest of the audience. Overall, it was an event where knowledge flowed and perspectives were compared. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Ms. Aswathy Rajan
