International Conference on “Rethinking Human Rights and Constitutional Freedoms in the Digital Age

Saveetha School of Law,SIMATS, successfully organised an International Conference on “Rethinking Human Rights and Constitutional Freedoms in the Digital Age” on 22 August 2026. The Conference provided a significant academic platform for deliberations on emerging legal, constitutional and human rights challenges arising from rapid digital transformation.

The Conference was meticulously organised by Mr. Raghunath M., Ph.D. Research Scholar, under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Murugan Ramu, Guide, and Dr. Lavaraju, Co-Guide.

Conducted in a hybrid mode, the Conference brought together students, research scholars, academicians, legal practitioners and researchers from diverse institutions and academic backgrounds. The offline proceedings were graced by distinguished guests Dr. Saleem Ahamed and Dr. Gomathi Shankari, whose presence contributed significantly to the academic discourse.

The online proceedings featured Ms. Maria Ecaterina Nistor, Director of Research and Partnerships, The Research Bridge, Sweden, and Legal Researcher in Human Rights, Migration and Global Policy. Dr. Parthiban Babu, Lecturer in Law, University of Northampton, United Kingdom, delivered an insightful and thought-provoking lecture addressing the central theme of the Conference and its contemporary relevance.

The Conference witnessed an impressive academic participation, with 121 teams presenting research papers across six online and three offline technical sessions. The deliberations addressed a broad range of contemporary issues, including human rights and constitutional freedoms in the digital era, artificial intelligence, privacy and data protection, cybersecurity, digital governance, algorithmic decision-making and algorithmic justice.

The diverse presentations and scholarly discussions highlighted the need for a balanced legal framework that safeguards fundamental rights while responding effectively to the opportunities and challenges created by emerging digital technologies. The Conference also facilitated meaningful academic exchange among participants from different institutions and jurisdictions.

The Conference concluded with a Valedictory and Prize Distribution Ceremony, during which outstanding research contributions and academic presentations were recognised. The event marked a significant contribution to contemporary legal scholarship and provided an enriching platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the future of human rights and constitutional freedoms in an increasingly digital society.
