Expert Lecture on "Biodiversity and Intellectual Property Rights"

The Intellectual Property Cell of Saveetha School of Law successfully conducted an expert lecture on the theme “Biodiversity and Intellectual Property Rights” on 24th April 2025 at Lecture Hall 40. The event witnessed the participation of 30 enthusiastic students from various academic years, reflecting a strong interest in the intersection of environmental conservation and legal frameworks for IP protection.

The distinguished speaker for the session was Dr. Anson C J, Assistant Professor at Boyd Tandon Business School, Madras Christian College, Tambaram. Dr. Anson brought a wealth of academic insight and practical knowledge, engaging the students with critical discussions on the role of IPR in preserving biodiversity, bioprospecting, traditional knowledge, and the challenges surrounding benefit-sharing mechanisms under international and Indian legal frameworks.

The session began with a warm welcome and introduction of the guest by Ms. Sanitta, Chairperson of the IP Cell, Saveetha School of Law. She highlighted the relevance of the topic in contemporary legal and policy debates and underscored the importance of fostering awareness among young legal minds.

Dr. Anson’s lecture was followed by an interactive Q&A session. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating the resource person for his valuable contribution and the participants for their active engagement.
