Saveetha School of Law and Maadhyam Inaugurate Mediation and Conflict Resolution Centre Chennai, July 5:
The Saveetha School of Law, in association with Maadhyam International Council for Conflict Resolution, inaugurated the MAADHYAM–SSL Mediation and Conflict Resolution Centre on July 5, 2025, at the Heritage Guild, SIMATS. The newly established centre aims to promote the practice of mediation and equip students, legal professionals, and stakeholders with tools for effective, non-adversarial dispute resolution.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Mr. Amarjit Singh Chandhiok, Senior Advocate, Former Additional Solicitor General of India, and President of Maadhyam, along with Mrs. Narmadha Sampath, Former Additional Advocate General of the State of Tamil Nadu and certified mediator, who attended as the Chief Guest. Mr. Chandhiok addressed the audience with a compelling speech on the growing relevance of mediation in India’s legal landscape. The event witnessed the participation of several dignitaries from Maadhyam, including Mr. J.P. Sengh, Ms. Neelam Rathore, Ms. Sarika Gandhi, Ms. Jasbir Kaur, Mr. Atul Batra, Ms. Zubeda Begum, and Ms. Amita Sehgal.
The event was graced by the leadership of SIMATS, Dr. Ashwani Kumar (Pro Vice-Chancellor, GlobalCollaborations) , and Prof. Dr. Asha Sundaram (Principal, Saveetha School of Law), who reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and practical legal training. The event was coordinated by the Department of Labour Law under coordination of Mrs. Girija Anil, Head of the Department, along with Assistant Professors Ms. Varsha Muralidharan, Mr. M. Ilampari, and Mr. Akshai Aanand B., who has been designated as the Chairperson of the Centre.
On this occasion, Saveetha School of Law also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maadhyam to strengthen collaboration in the field of mediation. On behalf of SIMATS, the MoU was signed by Registrar Dr. Sheeja Vargheese.
The newly established Centre will serve as the South Chapter of Maadhyam and will function from the campus of Saveetha School of Law. The Centre aims to train students to act as co-mediators, thereby nurturing the next generation of skilled mediation practitioners.
The establishment of this Centre is expected to foster a strong foundation for mediation practices and contribute to the evolving discourse on alternative dispute resolution in India.
