NATIONAL SEMINAR ON FORENSIC SCIENCE IN CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION & TRIAL
On 1st August 2022 Saveetha School of Law organized a one-day national seminar on Forensic Science to deliberate on the role and admissibility of forensic evidence in criminal trials and the challenges and impediments involved in its collection and preservation. Professor Dr. Asha Sundaram, Principal of Saveetha School of Law welcomed Professor Dr. Jaishankar and Dr. Sachil Kumar, the resource persons, and felicitated them.
The first Session of the National Seminar was chaired by Professor K. Jaishankar, PhD., Lecturer, Principal Director, and Professor of Criminology and Crime Sciences, International Institute of Crime and Security Sciences. He gave an apt introduction to the field of criminology and victimology and set the tone for the day by discussing critical issues like the psychological state of victims, the relationship between victims and offenders, the interactions between victims and the criminal justice system, etc among others.
The second Session of the National Seminar was chaired by Prof.Dr. Sachil Kumar, Associate Professor at Criminology & Crime Sciences of the International Institute of Crime & Security Sciences (IICSS). The speaker gave a brief introduction about how forensic science helps in solving crimes and the steps involved in it. The session was followed by a Q&A about the emerging field of forensic science and the speaker shared his experience and expertise in the field.
The third session witnessed the paper presentation of participants. Totally 23 outside participants came from prominent institutions such as Ramachandra and Vels University to present and participate in this national seminar. There was enthusiastic participation from SSL students as well.
