The purpose of the day is to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.
As the main theme of this national client counselling competition was regarding victims of child aggression which has become the most sensitive issue in recent times, the participants felt that they were enlightened about the topic in the most interesting way.
Read MoreSaveetha School of Law observed the World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April 2021 by organising a lecture, “Patent Law and Practice in Indian Patent Offices” by Dr. Sharana Gouda, Assistant Controller of Patents, from the Chennai Patent Office. The lecture was specifically intended to build deeper understanding in the students, on the practical aspects of patent acquisition in India. Elaborating on the historical developments right from the Indian colonial Patent Acts to the current 1970 Act, he observed that the fundamental objective of the patent law is utilitarian and not individualistic. He gave a schematic representation of the various provisions of the Patents Act that are relevant for acquisition of patent rights in India and went on explaining the different steps involved in patent prosecution and grant. His lecture gave sufficient exposure to the other hot topics such as evergreening of patents, compulsory licensing, and misappropriation of traditional knowledge. He also explained on the interdepartmental cooperation between the Patent Office and the National Biodiversity Authority for preventing the menace of biopiracy
Read MoreOn 19th March, 2021, the International Law department of Saveetha School of Law conducted a three day outreach program to two tribal villages in YERCAUD, Tamil Nadu. The program was organised by Kannan Kunnathully, the head of the department and assisted by Dr. Tenzin Kahampa. The main aim of the program was to create a chance for the students of Saveetha to interact with the tribal community and to understand their problems while creating an awareness about the various governmental policies for tribal community .
The overwhelming sentiment amongst all those who participated in the outreach program was that there should be proper implementation of the government policies and corruption should be prevented. It was both a learning and enriching experience to meet and mingle with the tribal community, in spite of the pandemic situation
Read MoreFarming which includes cultivation of castor oil seeds, seasonal crops and vegetables is the main sources of income for the people of Pachamalai hills. Although the younger generation are educated up to post-graduation, they still lack in communication skills. Some major problems faced by the tribes have been identified to be poverty, economic and technological backwardness, socio-cultural handicaps and problems of assimilation with the non-tribal population. Other everyday problems include drinking water scarcity, lack of internet facility and proper roads and having no fuel station nearby. Among the 550 responses the students of Saveetha School of Law collected, 30% were not aware of the Coronavirus Pandemic and only 10% of them got vaccinated through the aid of government while the others had no knowledge about it. Their only desire is to develop their locality into a tourist spot which would in turn fetch those jobs locally and they hope it will be a solution to the everyday problems they face.

An initiative spearheaded by Aarthy.G, Assistant Professor, Saveetha School of Law, in the name of Chennai Coastal Cleanup (CCC) campaign volunteered by the students of Saveetha School of Law Boomika imayavarthini.T, Rohith K.B, BHARATH.P, T.S.VIGNESHWARAN, EUREKA SRI, Anakha S J, Yogesh.S, Subaja, Jobin, Suryaprakash.J, Sam kishore, Arunachalam.P are trying to nullify the damage that plastic waste has been subjecting our coastlines.
The clean up drive started across Akarai Beach, ECR around 07.00 am on 18.03.2021.“We hope to inspire people to keep our coasts and waters clean, through proper waste management and disposal. Chennai has some picturesque coastal spaces, which needs to be protected and maintained on a regular basis,” said Ms. Aarthy.G
Coastal cities like Chennai have long used the sea as a garbage dump, but in recent years the city’s spiking population has seen vast amounts of trash finding its way to the beach from the sea.
“Our ultimate goal is to raise awareness on the impact of the ever-growing garbage footprint on the environment. Further to this, we are pro actively working on finding solutions for proper waste segregation and maintaining clean shores” We are planning to organise weekly clean-up drives. “There is no dependence on anyone or the need to wait for things to happen,” she adds.
If each one of us consciously take small steps towards saving our environment, we would be able to save not just our oceans but safeguard the earth for coming generations.
