Mrs. R. Kanagalakshmi gave an insightful sessions by providing the importance of Legal English and Communication skills. In the introductory session, the speaker enlightened us about the language learning and the journey of English from the past era. Then she explained about the genres of English such as Academic legal English, Judicial Legal English and Legislative Legal English. She also included legal phrases verbs and importance of legal drafting and correlation with legal English. She suggested various strategies to improve the speaking and communication skill and how to use the legal vocabulary during presentations. Also she talked about the need for national and international legal English for law students. The session was interesting and interactive. Everyone could gain knowledge about this concept in this session.

3rd Ever Rolling MEGA MOOT inter-class Competition 2020”, through virtual mode.

The whole world has been under an unprecedented lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak, so a stage has been set up via E-Learning and online examinations.

We took further step to organise our flagship program - “3rd Ever Rolling MEGA MOOT inter-class Competition 2020”, through virtual mode.

The event was scheduled and conducted successfully from June 18th to June 20th 2020 by Saveetha School Of Law, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences.

45 teams were participated in this competition. Each team consists of Two speakers and Two Researchers.

Total number of participants were 180.

There is an eye of justice that sees everything.

Hence, each round was adjudged by the bench of multiple judges.

The results were announced by Mr. Puspanathan Wilson, who is a Senior Advocate and has served as the Additional Solicitor General of India and He is a member of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India from Tamil Nadu.

The 3rd Ever Rolling MEGA MOOT inter-class Competition 2020 was won by the team comprising of Subayoga, Madhubalaji, Visruthi and Rangeela.

Arbitration in India

D.Francis Rozario Arun Raj has presented on Arbitration in Indiaand its scope to a greater extent in India. Arbitration means a process for settling a dispute between the parties by agreeing to let an impartial third party to make binding decisions, without the intervention of court proceedings. Apart from these, he has explained the interim orders and appealable orders. The term arbitral award means a decision which has been given by an arbitrator. The document that gives and explains the decision of an arbitrator is called an award. It’s a final judgement and binding in the same manner as the decision of a court. And concluded by saying that there is a huge scope of arbitration, but there should be practice in the court for at least a few years to have a very good future.

ROLE OF COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY FOR WOMEN WHO WITNESSED MENTAL TRAUMA

The Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The resource person explained about the psychology and further in detail about the counselling psychology. She explained that the counselling is required when there is a mental change and traumatized by a certain incident. She supported her point by explaining about the relationship management and how failure in it affects the women and also said about the exercise or certain activities which will be helpful for them to overcome those problems harmoniously.

Further explained about the role of the Women helpline (181) under the Ministry of Women and Child Development and how to get the evidence from the victim to save them and their role in getting justice by contacting or approaching the concerned executive or judicial officials.

In the last ten minutes of the meeting the resource person interacted with the participants and explained about the character, what changes they need for being in harmony.

LEGAL MEASURES FOR SMALL BUSINESS IN INDIA

The resource person Mr.ROSHAN. B is an employee with the Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, one of India's biggest electrical FMCGs as Regional Head- Legal( South India).

The topic was legal measures for small business in India. . The speaker started the session by explaining about small business with the help of a graph and how much it contributes to the Indian economy. Further the speaker gave a brief introduction about Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). He then explained about the classification of MSME which are manufacturing enterprises and service enterprises. He then gave us an en-lightment on the process of registration, the documents required, the benefits of MSME registration, the MSME scheme by the government, MSME Samdhaan, the announcement made on May 13, Shops and Establishment Act and the changes under COVID. The speaker concluded stating that there is no protection to the employees in small business, the steps taken by the government is not implemented properly.

Dr.P.K.Prabhakaran the resource person explained about the famous “R v Dudley and Stephens”, the concept of self preservation and Thiruvalluvar’s take on self defence and murder. He continued the speech by explaining the different modes of punishment, The resource person compared Savigny and Salmond’s theory of punishment to that of Thiruvalluvar. “Prohibition Law” and its deep roots in Thirukkural was also clearly explained. Thiruvalluvar had complete disregard for ‘hunger’ as a defence for theft. Theft, even when committed with good intention, is not justifiable in the eyes of Thiruvalluvar. The history of messengers (Diplomacy) in tamil literature and the “ideal qualities” that must be present in a messenger according to Thiruvalluvar was beautifully elucidated. Thiruvalluvar’s commitment to economic justice and its influence on Article 39A of the Indian Constitution, as stated in the famous kural.

The Speaker is Currently working as Physiotherapists at Aster International Hospital at Bengaluru. Social Justice and Reservation

The resource person started the webinar by acknowledging that this day (16/06/2020) is to be a historical day as the case for 50% “reservation to backward classes in all central government institutions” was to be heard in the Madras High Court. She also praised the unity of the political parties on raising the voice for social justice unanimously, cutting across political barriers. She asked the students to keep away from the prejudices against reservation and explained various questions that may arise after the seminar. The class and caste variant was explained. She explained about the questions raised by N.Subramaniya Iyer in “The Hindu” in the 1920s, questioning the idea of social justice proposed by the “Justice Party”. The reply of the Justice Party to N.Subramaniya Iyer as “Justice is fair dealing” was also explained. The resource person continued with the history of social justice movements and cases such as Champakkam Dorairajan case that struck down the communal order of the government. She covered various aspects of reservation and social justice movements including the history of South Indian Liberation Groups..The historic 1st amendment was also explained.The webinar ended at around 9:55AM. The session ended with the resource person answering the question raised by the student coordinator.
