An Overview on International trade law

The guest lecture held on Friday(25/10/2019)was delivered by Mr. Dilli babu who is a practising Advocate in the Madras High Court on the subject matter of An Overview on International trade law.The session started with how International trade law was established, International trade law includes the appropriate rules and customs for handling trade between countries. It is also used in legal writings as trade between private sectors, which is not right. This branch of law is now an independent field of study as most governments have become part of the world trade, as members of the World trade organisation (WTO). He also mentioned how international trade law can be distinguished with the other International Economic Law. The latter could be said to encompass not only WTO law, but also law governing the international monetary system and currency regulation, as well as the law of international development.The speaker also spoke about lex mercatoria and lex maritima and where it was derived from, The body of rules for transnational trade in the 21st century derives from medieval commercial laws called the lex mercatoria and lex maritima - respectively the law for merchants on land and the law for the merchants on the sea. Modern trade law began shortly after the Second World War, with the negotiation of a multilateral treaty to deal with trade in goods: the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Basically International trade law based on the theories of economic liberalism developed in Europe and later the United States from the 18nth century onwards.In the next session the lecture was about the WTO and its establishment Later in 1995 the World Trade Organisation, a formal international organisation to regulate trade, was established. It is the most important development in the history of international trade law. The purposes and structure of the organisation is governed by the Agreement establishing the World Trade Organisation, also known as the Marrakesh Agreement. It does not specify the actual rules that govern international trade in the specific areas. These are found in separate treaties, annexed to the Marrakesh Agreement. Ponniyin Selvan, IIS, PRO, Ministry of Defence, and Ms.J.Jareena Begum, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Egmore.The inaugural ceremony started with the blessings of almighty. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SIMATS welcomed the chief guests and the gathering. He said that this initiation is one of the dreams of Dr. N.M.Veeraiyan, Founder, SIMATS to train his students to excel in this competitive world and to serve the society. Then the dignitaries lightened the kuthuvillakku as the symbol of beginning for any auspicious occasion. All the dignitaries were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor, SIMATS. Followed by the felicitation, the highlight of the ceremony, SAVEETHA IAS ACADEMY was inaugurated by the Chief guests and the dignatries on the dias.

 

Ms. Jareena Begum showcased the way how a woman can succeed in her life leaving behind all her difficulties. It is very well proved from her life that age is just a number as she stated that it is only at the age of 33 years she entered into the Department of Police.

Mr. M. Ponniyin Selvan IIS shared his experience and difficulties that he faced during his course of UPSC saying that it is the best age and time for the student to start their training for civil services and Judiciary Exams, as it would be helpful for students to construct a stronger base to go in competence with the competitive nature of the society.

Prof. Dr. E. Murugan supportedMs. Jareena Begum statement. Dr. Murugan, a person of eminent intellectual knowledge discussed with the students regarding the current day difficulty for facing this competitive society and also about his new release of textbooks for class X & XII that is in competence with the portions of NEET syllabus. He also mentioned about the people facing the difficulty over the coaching for IAS, he was very happy with the move of Saveetha School of Law to start an academy for competitive exam trainingwhich helps the student at the very beginning of their formal education.

On 22.10.2019., special Lecture was conducted by Ms. Mumtaz., Guest Lecturer., SOEL on “ Crime In the society and organisation under IT Act 2000”. She starts with introduction of the topic about the rise and proliferation of newly developed technologies begin star to operate many cybercrimes in recent years. Cybercrime has become great threats to mankind. Protection against cybercrime is a vital part for social, cultural and security aspect of a country. The Government of India has enacted IT Act, 2000 to deal with cybercrimes. She further continued Equally challenging are the policy and legal issues. It is necessary to enact legislation that will sufficiently prohibit the abuses of new and developing technology. She concluded with questionnaire session and gave valuable information on cyber world as If anyone falls in the prey of cyber attack, please come forward and register a case in your nearest police station. If the criminals won’t get punishment for their deed, they will never stop.

National workshop on Art of Mooting

A two-day national workshop on the topic ‘Art of Mooting’ was conducted by Saveetha School of Law, Department of Criminal Law on 22nd and 23rd October, 2019. The guest lecturer was Mr. Akash Gupta, Research Associate and Moot Coordinator at Jindal Global Law School. Mr. Akash Gupta has completed his LLM in International Commercial Arbitration Law from Stockholm University and has the honor of winning the number 16 spot at the 26th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Vienna.

 

The workshop was divided into several sessions which included Presentation, Quiz, Interaction, Mock Arbitration, Question and Answers and Feedback. The different stages of moot preparation starting from Pre-memorial, During-memorial, Pre-orals, During-orals and Post-orals has been well addressed by the resource person. The common mistakes teams make while drafting memorials like use of jargon, adjectives etc were discussed in detail. He highlighted the importance of body language and how to answer calmly in high voltage question grounds. He reiterated the importance of networking and learning to unlearn for mooters. The speaker discussed all the minute aspects of moots starting from the very basics like selecting suitable team members, team building, funding for the team, registering for the moots, reading every detail of the proposition when released, preparing the memorandum, dividing issues equally among the team members, drafting the memorandum multiple times, checking the grammar and language of the memorandum constantly, behavior in a moot trial including confident sitting postures and facial expressions, responding to the judges, time management, delivering the final prayer and also tips to follow until the final results are announced.

 

 

The two-day workshop completely changed the way students traditionally approach moot competitions. The workshop helped them understand the purpose behind moots and that moots are not just about legal arguments. The workshop concluded with a mock arbitral trial were all the participants formed their own teams and given an opportunity to present before the resource person. The session ended with students sharing their honest feedback about the workshop by thanking the speaker and organizers for a memorable two days which will be useful throughout their lives, during their moot competitions and also in the real world.

The respected write up based on the Indian Mediation Awareness

programme which was conducted on 19.10.2019 at Children's Paradise Matriculation Higher

Secondary School.The process of mediation helps us gain more contacts and plays an important

role in our daily life .It teaches us to interact with the general public And makes us socialise with

the people in the Society.It also paves way to understand people from different lifestyles and

understand their problems.We as ambassadors make sure their problems are heard and are given

the right solution.

 

OVERVIEW:The Mediation Awareness programme is an amazing move . We got to interact

with 11th std students . There were about 150 students and around 9 teachers . We interacted

with them and made them feel comfortable with us, Firstly we gave an introduction on Legal

Profession.Interacted with the students on the cases pending in Supreme Court, the High Court

and District Courts . We also gave an awareness on the distinction on Civil and Criminal

cases.We then moved into Mediation , gave an introduction and awareness on how it’s helpful in

every citizen’s life and Who is a Mediator.We played animated videos based on mediation

in-order to make them understand what mediation is all about. Further moved on with the

PowerPoint Presentation and insisted on The Essentials of a Mediation.We conducted a

Communication game where 5 students were called and a situation was given to them and asked

to deliver it to each other one by one.The main aim of this game is to let them know how

information is passed among people and how’s it misinterpreted often.We made them understand

the importance of commutation skills of the Mediator and also gave an awareness on the

communication gap in our society.At last we conducted a game called Pictionary where students

were voluntarily called to participate in the game . We gave them a word based on mediation and

directed them to convey the words to the other students by drawing it on the board .Most

Importantly ,The signature event was conducted.We awarded them with medals, books and pens

 

. At last We concluded the programme by rewarding them.Students who won in the game were

awarded with books and pens whereas the 3 best interactors were awarded with medals .
