NATIONAL SEMINAR ON LITIGATION PRACTICES AND ADVOCACY SKILLS

On 23rd August 2022, Department of Business Law of Saveetha School of Law, SIMATS Organised a One day “National seminar on Litigation practices & Advocacy skills” in collaboration with “VIHAAN LEGAL CONSULTANCY” at SSL Seminar Hall. Three faculties namely Mrs. S P Vidyassri, Assistant Professor & Head of Business Law Department, Mrs. K kaliselvi Assistant Professor, Ms. S P Lathiaksri, Assistant Professor Coordinated the Programme. Total no of attendees were 132 students including Other college Partcipants in and around Chennai and kanchipuram district. Most renowned guest’s speakers have been invited to deliver the speech on International and Indian perspectives on Mediation and Arbitration, Advocacy skills, professional ethics, ODR etc. Prof Dr. Asha Sundaram, The Principal of saveetha school of Law Felicitated the guest of honour’s Advocate Mrs. S Thenmozhi, Senior Advocate Mr. Suryanarayanan, Dr. Subhalakshmi, Advocate Mrs. J Shakila, Advocate Mr. Dharmaraj, Advocate Mr. Bala Surya.  

First Session was handled by Advocate Mrs. S Thenmozhi who dealt with the International and Indian perspective on mediation and arbitration and its legality. A clear idea of what mediation is all about , what cases to be dealt under mediation law was delivered. The scopes of mediation in International and Indian law explained. Comparative analysis on the arbitration and mediation procedures was elaborated.

 Second session was handled by Senior Advocate Mr. Suryanarayanan who mainly concentrated on the skills to be possessed by the mediator and arbitrator. A clear explanation was given on the critical thinking skills , approachability and also about the drafting skills . 

Third session was by Advocate Mrs. J Shakila . Mam dealt with  the matters relating to the advocacy skills that needed to be possessed by every advocate. The requirements for drafting and ways in improving our drafting skills were also explained in this session. Duties of every advocate was also included while discussing the advocacy skills.  

Fourth session was held by Dr. Subhalakshmi mam who enlightened  us with complete knowledge starting from the history of legal profession to the duties that very advocate possess. The 7 lamps of advocacy which is to be known by every advocate was also discussed.
