National Conference on White Collar Crimes - Issues and Challenges to the Criminal Justice System in India”

“One day National Conference on White Collar Crimes - Issues and Challenges to the Criminal Justice System in India” conducted by Department of Criminal Law brought together the experts in law, criminology, and business to discuss issues related to financial crime, corporate misconduct, and regulatory enforcement. Special presentations were made by R.Sumithra Chakkaravarthi, Advocate at Madras High Court and G.K.Rohit, Legal Advisor to Indusind Banks at Chennai. This Conference was made possible under the guidance of the Chief Patron of the Conference Dr.N.M.Veeraiyan, Chancellor of SIMATS, Patron Dr.Deepak Nallaswamy, Director of Academics at SIMATS and the Convenor Dr.Asha Sundaram, Principal at Saveetha School of Law, along with the field efforts of Faculty Coordinators - Dr.Lavaraju B. and Rajavinayagam Subash with the Student Coordinators Sindhu S.S.K. and Arun Karthick V.A. This Conference witnessed 135 active participants and 15 Students Presenters, along with 2 Presentations from other Universities. Conference topics include: ● Trends in white-collar crime: Presenters discussed recent cases, trends in financial crime, and emerging issues related to technology and cybercrime. ● Regulatory enforcement and compliance: Speakers discussed the role of government agencies in investigating and prosecuting white-collar crime, as well as the importance of compliance programs and internal controls in preventing corporate misconduct. ● Victims and restitution: Presentations focused on the impact of white-collar crime on victims, including investors, employees, and consumers, as well as efforts to recover assets and provide restitution to those affected. ● Corporate governance and ethics: Speakers discussed the importance of ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability in preventing white-collar crime, as well as the role of boards of directors and corporate social responsibility in promoting good governance. ● International cooperation and legal frameworks: Discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities in international asset recovery, extradition, and mutual legal assistance in cases involving white-collar crime. Overall, this National Conference on white-collar crime acted as an opportunity for Resource Persons and Participant Presenters to share insights, exchange ideas, and explore new approaches to preventing and combating financial crime and corporate misconduct.
