INDUSTRIAL VISIT - PONLAIT (PONDICHERRY COOPERATIVE MILK PRODUCERS UNION LTD)

On 21 December 2023, Mrs U Ragavee, HOD of Department of Labour Law organised an Industrial Visit to Ponlait (Pondicherry Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited) located in Pondicherry . The students were welcomed by the knowledgeable staff, who guided them through the various stages of milk production and processing.

The students witnessed the efficient milk procurement system, where local dairy farmers supplied milk to the union. The union emphasised the importance of fair pricing and transparent transactions, ensuring the welfare of dairy farmers. The visit included a comprehensive tour of the processing unit, where raw milk undergoes various stages of processing, including pasteurisation and homogenization. The participants gained insights into the stringent quality control measures implemented to ensure the production of safe and high-quality dairy products.

The quality control laboratory showcased the rigorous testing procedures employed to monitor the quality and safety of milk and dairy products. This segment highlighted the union's commitment to adhering to national standards and regulations. The packaging unit illustrated the advanced packaging techniques employed by the union to maintain the freshness and integrity of dairy products. The participants learned about the distribution network and logistics involved in delivering products to various retail outlets.

A session was dedicated to explain the cooperative model, emphasising the union's commitment to community development and the empowerment of local dairy farmers. The cooperative structure ensures equitable distribution of profits and encourages collective decision-making.
