Awareness Session on POSH Lawsa nd its implementation: A case study Analysis

On March 7th, the Saveetha School of Law's Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Cell led a thought-provoking awareness session on the existing POSH regulations and the various implementation methods. The session was held at Saveetha College of Architecture and Design, at SIMATS Thandalam campus. Dr. J. Damen Queen, assistant professor and head of the postgraduate department of social work at the Madras School of Social Work, was the distinguished speaker. Damen Queen is a postgraduate in medical and psychiatric social work. She has ten years of social work and three years of women development and advocacy field experience. She has led successful self-care programmes for women and social workers across the country. The session covered various aspects of how sexual harassment occurs in the workplace and how it can be effectively prevented. The guest speaker began by informing the students about the current Indian law that aids in the prevention of sexual harassment, The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act of 2013. She also discussed what a workplace is, who is an employer, the importance of the Internal Complaints Committee, and gave students some eye-opening examples of what sexual harassment at work is and how to recognise sexual harassment. Ms. Aswathy Prakash G, faculty coordinator, gave a poignant vote of thanks to the Guest, the students, faculty, and staff who attended the event. Dr. Jothilakshmy, SCAD Principal, Dr. Sandhya, SCAD POSH member, and Mr. SLS Rajavinayaga Subhash, Saveetha School of Law attended the event.
