This webinar is about an overview of the topic “An comparative study on online and offline education” . Online education is learning via online classes as per the convenience of the students and teachers. In comparison, Offline education is the traditional learning system where students and teachers have face-to-face learning. Both forms of education have their advantages and disadvantages. In the First Session , V. Harikrishna Prabhu , PG Assistant in physics, former vice principal Academic Dmi-st-Eugene University Zambia has taken about the topic on basic concepts in Online education and its effects to the students.While online education is not a new phenomenon, its importance came to light after the pandemic. While it has immensely helped in the continuation of education despite the closure of many educational institutions, there is considerable debate between online education and offline education.The imposition of lockdown led to the shutdown of physical classrooms and thus online education became the new norm. Although online learning has managed to keep education alive in these dire times, it cannot completely replace it. Both online and offline education have their own distinct set of advantages and disadvantages. In this blog, we will explore one of the most debated topics these days, online classes vs offline classes. In the second session, Dr.M Santhosh Rani M.E,Ph.D (Electronics) Assistant Professor SRM University took the topic of Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Education The Advantages of online education are It is flexible; can be accessed from anywhere with a device and internet connection.Budget-friendly.Convenient attendance.Class recordings are available for later references.The Disadvantages of online education:One of the major disadvantages faced by students learning online is managing screen time. Online education requires staying logged in on the screen for an extended period regularly. Long-duration screen time becomes a great difficulty for the students and harmful for their health as well, especially the eyes.Another disadvantage includes technical glitches. Poor Internet connectivity issues also arise multiple times during online sessions. Small towns/cities, urban areas face the most difficulty maintaining stable Internet connection. It destroys the learning of the students.Other disadvantages include: Feeling of isolation by individuals, Minimal peer help, Group work not as efficient as it would be if done offline. In the Third session, Mrs.Arockia Deepa T M.SC.B.ED.,(Zoology) 10 Experience of Teaching in Ponnu Matriculation Higher Secondary School Dharapuram has discussed the Effects of online education in COVID times. The he Covid-19 outbreak which led to the sequential lockdowns has highlighted the importance of online format in sustaining the education. The entire education engine had come to a halt which got some lubrication from online education in ensuring the movement. However, online education is also not free from risks. The threat of technological disruptions and cyber crimes always looms on anything connected to the internet. Therefore, it would not be wise enough to depend on online education, and offline education must always remain in existence. Online education has its benefits, but it cannot fully replace the offline education system. For the holistic success of the education system, both online and offline education must coexist. The two need to complement each other rather than compete against each other. The education sector needs to devise ways for the co-existence of the two
