Chennai Port Trustee - Industrial Visit
On 12th December 2024, a group of students from Saveetha School Of Law visited the Chennai Port Authority as part of an industrial visit to gain practical insights into port operations and maritime activities. Arrived at 11:00 AM and were warmly welcomed by port officials, who provided a detailed overview of the port's significance in India's trade and economy. The officers explained the importance of the 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) for resource exploitation, including oil and gas exploration, and discussed the challenges of ensuring environmental safety and maritime security. They highlighted the port’s role in handling large-scale exports, such as automobiles, imports of essential goods like sunflower oil and petroleum products, and its contribution to cruise emigration. As a designated emigration hub, the port facilitates the processing of passengers for international cruise travel, enhancing Chennai’s role as a gateway for global tourism. And also learned about the coordinated efforts of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard in maintaining security and protecting vital maritime infrastructure. Following the briefing, toured the facilities, observing container terminals, automobile export yards, and oil storage infrastructure, gaining first hand exposure to the complexities of port operations. The visit was an enriching experience that enhanced our understanding of maritime trade, resource management, and the strategic importance of India's coastal regions
