Seminar : Compliance and Implementation of Law against Sexual Harassemnt

 The Prevention of Sexual Harassment Cell of the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences is  coordinated by Saveetha School of Law.  As part of its extension activities for the year 2022, the Cell organised three lectures on the legal aspects of sexual harassment targeting the students of Saveetha Medical and Nursing colleges situated in the Thandalam campus on 12th April 2022. The program was conducted in the Neithal Hall of Saveetha Medical College from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm. The lectures were delivered by three eminent lady advocates with standing practice of not less than 15 years. The first lecture was delivered by Adv.Adhilakshmi Logamurthy, a well-known social activist, trainer and counsellor on sexual harassment related issues in general. Her speech focused on the different types of sexual harassment women might face at home and in the public and work related places. She elaborated on when such activities could constitute a punishable sexual harassment and the legal remedies one can avail of in such situations. The second lecture was delivered by Adv. Karpaga Priya, a cyber law expert. She explained how sexual harassment takes a different dimension in the virtual world and how vulnerable the children and women could be to such heinous activities. She vividly deliberated on how prudent one ought to be in the virtual platforms. The third lecture was delivered by Adv. Vigneswari M., an in-house counsel of RMS Associates, Chennai on the provisions of the Prevention of Secual Harassment Act, 2013. The informal way of communication opted by the resource persons proved to be successful in bringing more interactions during and after the program, from the student groups assembled at the venue. The program came to an end by 1.00 pm.
