NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WOMEN IN INDIAN JUDICIARY
Under the able guidance of Prof. Dr Asha Sundaram,Principal ,Saveetha School of Law, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences organized a two-days National Conference on “The Representation of Women in Contemporary Indian Judiciary: Issues,Challenges and Politics” on October 4-5, 2024 . While highlighting the importance of the conference in bringing gender equality in judiciary, Prof.Dr Asha Sundaram welcomed the guests who came from reputable academic institutions from different parts of the country including Srinagar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Orissa and Delhi. Prof.Dr Raka Arya, Member of 22nd Law Commission, Ministry of Law and Justice , Government of India , who was the chief guest, made opening remarks.
Prof.Raka emphasized the importance of increasing representation of women in judiciary, and highlighted the number of problems faced by women in taking a career in judiciary.More than 100 papers were presented during this two-day conference
Prof. Vageshwari Deswal (Delhi University) listed out the Key Judicial Decisions for Protecting Rights of Women and Freedom.
Dr. Mamta Rana (Hemvati Nadan Bahuguna Garhwal University) and Dr. Sangeetha Sriram (Central University of Tamil Nadu) spoke about Gender Equality in the Indian Constitution. Dr. Anita Yadav from University of Delhi delivered a speech about Harassments at work Environment and related Judicial Decisions.
Dr. Suvashree Panda highlighted the Role of Educational Institutions in Improving the Representation of Women in Judiciary.
Dr.Shanaz Noor spoke on the Vistas from judiciary: Face to Face Conversation with Women Judicial Officers of Kashmir. Dr. Sangita Lana delivered a speech about Changing Dimensions of Women’s Representation in Judiciary Dr. Manisha Mirdha spoke about the Socio-Cultural Factors Affecting Women in Judicial Career. Prof. Dr. Monika Malik delivered a speech about the Journey of Women Empowerment in India with Special Reference to Indian Judiciary.
Ms.Kalyananthy Satchithanatham , Member ,Widows and Destitute Women Welfare Board, Government of Tamil Nadu delivered the valedictory address on 5th October 2024.
Certificates and prizes were distributed. Earlier Prof.Dr Asha Sunadaram felicitated all the guests. At the end Dr. T.C Karthikeyan delivered the Vote of Thanks.
