National Conference on Medico-Legal Challenges - A Collaborative Initiative by Saveetha School of Law and V2 Legal

On December 10th, 2024, the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, Saveetha School of Law, in collaboration with V2 Legal, organized an insightful National Conference on Medico-Legal Challenges at Heritage Guild. The conference brought together renowned experts in the field of law and medicine, offering students and professionals a deep dive into the complexities surrounding medico-legal issues.

The event was graced by six distinguished members from V2 Legal, including Dr. V. Venkatesan, Founder of V2 Legal, who has an extensive career spanning across law and governance. Dr. Venkatesan’s expertise as a former Senior Central Government Standing Counsel at the High Court of Chennai added significant value to the discussions. Along with him, Mr. B. Sudhir Kumar, Partner at V2 Legal, with over 22 years of legal experience, contributed his rich knowledge, especially in criminal law, industrial disputes, family cases, and constitutional matters. He also serves as Senior Central Government Standing Counsel for the Madras High Court, having handled high-profile cases and complex matters.

The conference sessions covered critical topics such as:

The Legal Framework for Medical Practice. The Consumer Protection Act, Indian Penal Code, and Clinical Establishments Act. Medical Negligence and Malpractice. Landmark Court Cases in the medical-legal arena. Forensic Medicine and Legal System. The Relevance of Forensic Experts in Criminal Investigations. Telemedicine and Digital Healthcare in modern medical practice. The afternoon session featured Mr. M. Ramesh, Assistant Professor at Veltech School of Law, who provided valuable insights into the intersection of law and medicine, shedding light on current and emerging medico-legal challenges.

The event saw a robust participation of around 600 students, with 20 students presenting their papers on various related themes. The conference fostered an environment of deep engagement, with numerous thought-provoking discussions and insightful questions. This interaction allowed students to directly connect with experts, further enhancing their understanding of the medico-legal field.

At the conclusion of the event, One Best Presenter Award and One Best Paper Award were presented to the outstanding students, celebrating their research and contributions to the conference.
