Mental Health Care  Act: Current Indian Context

Dr. Sindhur N delivered today’s Webinar on Mental Health Care  Act: Current Indian Context. The webinar started off with an introduction about the Speaker followed by an introduction into the topic by the co-ordinator, S. Sadhana. About 25 participants attended the Session. The Speaker walked us through the History of the Mental Health Acts in India and touched upon how mentally ill persons were shunned and discriminated against. Moving on to the existing mental Healthcare Act, 2017, which is touted to be much better than the previous Acts. She concluded the session with the positives and the drawbacks of the Act. Participants  raised certain important questions like the link between technology and depression and if anxiety is an indication of the onset of depression. In short, the session was an eye opener and will definitely ensure that the stigma surrounding mental health reduces.

“It is okay to not be okay.”
