Ms.Rani High court senior Advocate ,Guest lecturer at Madras law college have delivered a lecture on Juvenile system in India. The Juvenile Justice Act as a welfare and progressive legislation enacted for the protection of the rights of children requires every state to frame appropriate protocols to ensure that Juvenile Justice Provisions are implemented in the grassroots level. The need for considering the child as an innocent up to the age of 18 years, treating a child with dignity and worth, giving a right to be heard and also a right to participate in all decision making process affecting his interest, helping the child to develop full potential , inculcating social values and cultural aspects of the community in the child, ensuring the safety of the child, facilitating educational and emotional development . Need for ensuring principles of non-discrimination , ensuring privacy and confidentiality, right of the child to be re-united with his family and the need to restore the socio- economic status , right to have a fresh start, the importance of compling with the basic procedural standards were discussed with illustrative case laws.
