International Seminar on "Neo-Victimologies & Modern Jurisprudence
The Department of Research and Development organized an International Seminar on "Neo-Victimologies & Modern Jurisprudence" on September 5, 2024. The International Institute of Justice and Police Science (IIJPS), in collaboration with the South Asian Society of Criminology and Victimology (SASCV), brought together experts to discuss emerging trends in victimology and their implications for modern legal thought.Prof. (Dr.) Natti Ronel from Bar Ilan University, Israel, discussed "Spiritual Victimology and Grace Theory." His talk explored how spiritual perspectives and the concept of grace can inform our understanding of victims' experiences and recovery processes. Ms. Ayala Elbaz,Researcher and Clinical Practitioner, from Bar Ilan University's Department of Criminology, presented on "Forgiveness and Victimology." Her lecture emphasized the role of forgiveness in victim healing and its place within victimological studies.Prof. (Dr.) K. Jaishankar from the International Institute of Justice & Police Sciences in Bengaluru, India, spoke about "Political Victimology." His talk addressed how political factors and systems can create or exacerbate victimization, as well as the unique challenges faced by victims of political crimes. The seminar provided a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, bringing together perspectives from criminology, law, and social work. By exploring these "neo-victimologies," the event aimed to broaden understanding of victimization and contribute to the development of more effective, holistic approaches in both academic research and practical support for victims.The event was convened by Prof. Dr. Asha Sundaram, Principal of the Saveetha School of Law, with Dr. Thangamayan, Head ,Department of Research and Development serving as co-convenor.
