Awareness campaign on prevention of sexual harassment

The students and faculties of Saveetha School of Law conducted an awareness campaign on prevention of sexual harassment on 20th of June, 2022. The target audience of the campaign was the students and non-teaching staff of Saveetha College of Design and Architecture. The objective of this campaign was to give awareness on the major sexual harassment problems faced by women in modern scenarios, insights on the existing laws, the ways by which they can report and act in such situations, and the remedies available to them. The session commenced at 10 am at Saveetha College of Design and Architecture.

The campaign was conducted in two languages, in English for students and faculties of Saveetha College of Design and Architecture and in Tamil for the non-teaching staff. The organiser of this awareness campaign was Prof. Dr. Asha Sundaram, Principal, Saveetha School of Law. The POSH SDAC member, Ms. Sandhya. P, Associate Professor was a significant contributor to the campaign. The SSL faculty coordinators of the campaign were Dr. Anju Mohan, Professor, and Ms. Aswathy Prakash G, Assistant Professor from Saveetha School of Law. The student coordinators were Samrin Sulaiman and Jyotsna Roja pursuing 3rd Year of BBA LLB and BA LLB (Hons.) respectively from Saveetha School of Law. The team of campaigners comprised 12 students from Saveetha School of Law:

The awareness campaign was able to reach out to more than 75 people. The campaign was able to make the audience understand the brutality of the crime of sexual harassment and made them aware regarding the existing laws governing it and also enlightened them on the methods to prevent it from happening. It also opened up the several ways through which the victims of sexual harassment can get their remedies if such an incident occurs. A POSH Cell has been constituted at the Institution exclusively for the purpose of addressing the grievance related to sexual harassment and helping the victims achieve the remedies.
