1st Young Lawyers National Moot Court Competition 2024 (1st and 2nd June 2024)

The 1st Young Lawyers National Moot Court Competition was held on June 1st and 2nd, 2024, organised by Saveetha School of Law in collaboration with the Asian School of Cyber Laws. This pioneering event was designed exclusively for young lawyers with less than five years of post-qualification experience (PQE). The moot problem revolved around cyber law and criminal law, specifically addressing issues of online stalking and abetment of suicide.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation from young and budding advocates across the nation. Day one of the event, on June 1st, 2024, featured the preliminary rounds, quarterfinals, and semifinals. These rounds were fiercely contested, with participants showcasing their legal acumen and advocacy skills. The sessions were adjudicated by leading legal minds, ensuring a high standard of judgement and feedback. The preliminary rounds set a competitive tone, with teams striving to advance to the next stages. The quarterfinals and semifinals further intensified the competition, as the participants demonstrated their expertise in both cyber law and criminal law through well-crafted arguments and rebuttals.

The final round of the competition took place on June 2nd, 2024. The grand finale was adjudicated by esteemed judges and witnessed an impressive display of legal talent. The event concluded with a valedictory function attended by several dignitaries, including Honourable Justice M. Nirmal Kumar, Sitting Judge of the Madras High Court, and Advocate J. Ravindran, Additional Advocate General of Tamil Nadu.

The competition recognized excellence through various awards. Attractive cash prizes were given in the following categories:

  2. Best Speaker

  3. Master Persuader

  4. Best Lawyer in Rebuttal

  5. Most Enthusiastic Participating Law Firm

  6. Best Lawyer - Appellant

  7. Best Lawyer - Respondent

The event was graced by the presence of Principal Prof. Dr. Asha Sundaram, Mr. Gokul Narayan, COO of the Asian School of Cyber Laws, Ms. Shuchi Nagpal, CEO of the Asian School of Cyber Laws, Advocate Thriyambak J. Kannan, Partner at Khaitan & Co, Chennai, and Ms. Gayathri Premnath, Legal Services Solutions Lead at TCS.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aswathy Prakash G, Assistant Professor at Saveetha School of Law, marking the end of a successful and enriching competition that provided valuable insights and practical experience to the young lawyers.
