Consumer Protection Act

On 4/4/2021 Saveetha School of Law conducted a webinar on "Consumer Protection Act, 2019” The speaker of the session was G . Dakshinamurthy, Advocate, Madras HC. The session aimed at creating awareness about the new changes brought in by the COPA 2019 and how its strengthened the consumer rights . He walked the audience through the intricacies of the new act and explained why the old act has to be repealed and brought as an entirely new act. He elaborated the liability of online portals like Amazon for products hosted and sold through their portals. It also discussed the importance of consumer law and consumer disputes . The speaker has discussed a few case laws such as Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTC) v Ashok Iron Works Private Limited , which held that Corporate Bodies can be sued even under the erstwhile Consumer Protection Act, 1986. The event was a fruitful one as it helps the students in understanding the new changes under COPA 2019.
