Civil remedies available under IT Act 2000
Saveetha School of Law conducted a webinar on Civil remedies avalilable under IT Act in India. The webinar commenced at 6PM on 29th September, 2020. The speaker was Mr. K.R. Arun Shabari, Advocate ,Madras High court. The webinar was attended by 20 students. The student coordinator started off the session by giving an introduction about the speaker. The speaker started his lecture by briefing about the civil remedies that are available under IT act in India . He discussed almost all the aspects that could be covered in a short span of time. The speaker also explained about the provisions related to civil remedies. He threw light upon the topics such as adjudicator and his powers, provisions relating to offences and punishments. The speaker ended the session by explaining that the IT adjudicator may rule only in cases where the claim for injury or harm does not exceed 5 crores. In the case of claims exceeding 5 crores, the company concerned should file an action for the same action before the competent court. In addition to this he also stated that an organisation can also bring an action for infringement of contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. The student coordinator concluded the meeting by thanking the speaker and the students at 7:00 PM, which marks the end of the webinar.
