A CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON IS IT LAW OF TORT OR LAW OF TORTS
On 28/3/2021 Saveetha School of Law conducted a webinar on “A Critical Analysis On Is It Law Of Tort Or Law Of Torts”. The speaker of the day was Ms.C. Chandralekha, Advocate, Madras HC. The speaker started the seminar by giving an introduction to the term Tort and explained the French origin of the word that was derived from the Latin Term “Tortum”. During this webinar the speaker elucidated the theories of Tort as well as Torts. She explained the two theories to have a wider knowledge on the controversy between tort and torts. The speaker elaborated on the Winfield's Theory and the Salmond’s theory and gave numerous case laws for better understanding of the concept. The speaker also pondered on pertinent questions like why India don’t have codified laws for Tort, unlike UK and USA.She additionally observed that Indian tort jurisprudence is largely judge made and concluded the webinar by clearly differentiating the two theories of law of tort and law of torts.
